What it is
Gas measures the computing work a transaction needs on Ethereum. You pay for it in ether, at a price that rises and falls with demand for block space.
It is quoted in gwei. One gwei is a billionth of an ether.
How to read it
Gas is a live reading of how busy the network is. A sudden spike during a sell-off often means people are rushing to move funds or repay loans.
